Katerini is a town most people drive past on the way to Thessaloniki, which is a pity for the town and useful for anyone searching for escorts in Katerini. Nobody is looking. It is a solid Macedonian market centre with Mount Olympus filling the western sky, and eight kilometres away a summer coast, Paralia and Olympiaki Akti, that turns into a small Balkan resort from June to September, full of Serbian and Bulgarian families and very loud beach bars.

Town versus coast
In winter there is only the town: a long pedestrian centre with cafés that run late, a Saturday market, and business hotels used to travellers from the motorway. In summer the coast takes over, and Paralia in particular is anonymous in the way only a cheap resort can be. For a discreet evening in season, stay on the coast. Out of season, the town hotels are simpler than they look.
Hotels
In town, the Olympus Mediterranean is the polished business choice and the easiest. On the coast, the Mediterranean Village at Paralia and the Poseidon Palace at Leptokarya further south are large resort hotels that do not count their guests. The small pensions on the Paralia seafront are fine as a couple and cheap enough that nobody asks. Litochoro, the village at the foot of Olympus, has lovely small hotels that are entirely wrong for a separate arrival.
How a companion gets here
Thessaloniki airport is an hour by road and the train from Thessaloniki to Katerini runs hourly. From Athens the intercity train stops here on its way north, about four hours. Most Katerini bookings are a companion already travelling with a client from Thessaloniki or Athens, on a day rate covering two or more nights, with travel quoted before you agree. Evenings
Katerini eats well and cheaply. The tavernas around the pedestrian centre and the Ethnikis Antistaseos square for meat, Paralia’s seafront for fish in summer. Beach bars at Olympiaki Akti run until dawn in July and August; the town’s own bars along the pedestrian zone close around two. For a day with company, Dion and the Olympus foothills are twenty minutes, and Litochoro’s Enipeas gorge is the walk.
