Kavala climbs from the harbour to the old Ottoman quarter of Panagia in tight steps, and in summer the whole town leans towards the Thassos ferry. The Imaret inside the old quarter is one of the most beautiful hotels in Greece and one of the least suitable for a visitor arriving separately, because it has twenty-six rooms and a staff who know all of them. Stay there as a couple or not at all.
Getting a companion to Kavala
The Athens flight lands at the airport between Kavala and Xanthi in just over an hour; Thessaloniki is two hours by road.
